This is a special “Shodan” (small part). Very rarely, if at all, do two voices sing in tandem. Richard devised this to sound like the wakis are casting a spell — which they are! The musical accompaniment is called “notto” or, in English, “prayer” Haiyashi- Mitsuo Kama-Otsuzmi, Tomoyasu- Takenaka-Kotsimi, Narumi- Takizawa- Nohkan

Traditional Dance Music

This is a dance piece often used in warrior plays and “mad woman” plays. It is meant to depict mental anguish or distraction. I sometimes play it and wander around my house aimlessly. - gg
